So happy to have two pieces musing on wedding dresses posted today in Queen of Cups, a cool publication created by my friend Sarah Sousa. Weekly issues of the magazine feature one contemporary writer matched with an eclectic image and a tarot card, which Sarah pulls and interprets, both for writers and artists, and in general. I got paired with “Strength” this week! Consider reading and sending your work too.
I wrote a guest column that was published today in the opinion section of my local paper with the intention of encouraging listening and finding empathy with those who may think differently in order to promote dialogue, discourage hypocrisy, and hopefully work toward affecting change. It’s not the most important voice, nor does it say all I want to or think, but I’m including it in case folks have the time or inclination to read.
I’m honored that my poem “Seneca Deer” was chosen as a runner-up for the Yemassee Poetry Prize. It’s published in the beautiful new issue, both in print and online. As the editors said in their post, “Right now, we need poetry more than ever.”
As I take over as director and editor of Perugia Press this month, we are getting a flurry of coverage about the history of the press, this leadership change, and the events we’ve planned to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We were featured generously in our local newspaper, The Daily Hampshire Gazette. Founding director Susan Kan and I had a guest blog up at the Straw Dog Writers Guild website. Carrie Healy of NEPR conducted a lovely interview with founding director Susan Kan, and on Election Day we talked about poetry and championing women’s voices on NPR (“Northampton Poetry Radio”) on WHMP (our segment aired from 37:35-47:15). Hope to see you for the upcoming festivities!
