Poetry Month News, Part II

Spring has sprung, the forsythia in my front yard are halfway through their weeklong yellow outburst, and I have a few more National Poetry Month announcements regarding publications and public readings this April. As I said in my last post, I’m sharing the pages and stages with many friends and writers I admire, which makes this news all the sweeter.

First, my writing partner Elizabeth Paul and I have a guest blog post on text-and-image work up on the See Double Press blog today. See Double is an “independent press dedicated to innovative interfusing of text and image.” The piece references some publications we’ve had of collages and poems from our latest collaborative project, and it is written as an epistolary exchange on our creative process. Thanks to Creative Editor Larry Sutin and Director Mab Nulty at See Double for giving a home to our pen-pal artist letters. It was fun to spend time talking with each other about what makes us tick, together and individually, as artist-writers.

I’m so happy my poem “Wellfleet” was chosen for the Poetry Month showcase Parks & Points & Poetry 2019. Thanks to project creators Amy Beth and Derek Wright, Brooklyn-based writers and outdoor enthusiasts, for including my piece. Every April, the Parks & Points site “capture[s] the awe and transformation possible on national public lands than through a celebration of poetry.” I wrote my poem while visiting Wellfleet in October of 2018, in the throes of the Kavanaugh hearings, and in the wake of two tragic losses in that area of the Outer Cape.

Also, I have two poems, “Make Believe” and “How, Drinking One Monday in Massachusetts, I Remembered What I Felt on the Carrer de Mallorca in Spain One Long-Ago Winter,” in Wanderlust: The Best of 2019 Anthology. Thanks to Editor Sarah Leamy and Guest Editor Brianna Stallings for putting this anthology together and including my work in the pages.

I’ll be reading in Northampton, MA on Friday, April 26 at the launch for the inaugural issue of Linea and at Poets House in NYC on Saturday, May 18 at the launch for Mom Egg Review, vol. 17. See the “Readings & Events” tab for more details.

And, this Saturday, April 27, I’ll be at the Florence Poetry Carnival in Florence, MA from 2-6pm along with other local poetry orgs and a reading celebrating the outgoing and incoming poet laureates of Northampton, Amy Dryansky and Karen Skolfield, respectively. I’ll have a table for Perugia Press including books and a poetry prompt activity, closing out the topsy turvy ride that is National Poetry Month!

Becky, I’m leaving for the island on Friday, but I wish I could come to your reading! And did I ever write to say how DELICIOUS that lasagna was?? If I didn’t I should have. Because it was so delicious and so generous and such a sweet surprise. Savory surprise.
