Showers & Flowers: Spring Poetry, Panels & Podcasts
Here are a few group pictures from the shower of April events I participated in – when it rains, it pours! Many thanks to the venues, hosts, fellow readers, and audiences who came out to share community this Poetry Month. Scroll down for what I’ll be up to in May!

I also had the privilege and pleasure of being on several podcasts in April. It’s such an honor to have space made for my new book Singing from the Deep End, and to get to read and talk about poems in its pages, as well as poetry practice and community, the joy and pride of running Perugia Press, and even the grief of learning that my undergrad institution, Hampshire College, is closing.
Listening to poetry podcasts is so enjoyable to me and has become another way of enacting an ethos rooted in Hampshire, which is to be a life-long learner. To be able to sit behind the mic and share some of what I’ve made and what matters to me is a gift I’m grateful for. I hope you’ll check out these episodes but also give these wonderful podcasts a follow!
- “Poet Talk”: “Join Ellen Miller-Mack & her co-host Kevin Carberry every week as a poet from the fertile fields of Western Massachusetts joins us live in our WMUA studio. They share a beloved poem by another poet & some of their own poems, followed by a deep discussion about their work & life as a poet.” Here’s a link to the episode I was on.
- “The WildStory”: “The Wildstory: A Podcast of Poetry and Plants by The Native Plant Society of New Jersey, is hosted by Ann E. Wallace, Poet Laureate of Jersey City. Art & nature intercept in each episode to bring listeners inside the world of poetry about the natural world.” Here’s a link to the episode I was on.
- “The Fabulous 413”: “Monte Belmonte & Kaliis Smith bring you The Fabulous 413, a live, daily radio show & podcast celebrating life in western MA — a kind of ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood’ for grown-ups.” Here’s a link to the episode I was on with poet & friend Nathan McClain, live from The Evergreens at the Emily Dickinson Museum, Amherst, MA.

And here’s where, when, and with whom I’ll be reading in May to share Singing from the Deep End – across Massachusetts, in libraries, gallery spaces & an arts fest, and online the first Sunday (That means tomorrow! For the link to the virtual reading at 3pm ET on 5/3 with Cindy Veach, please email rholander@comcast.net). Hope you can join me and the amazing folks with whom I’ll be sharing space. Find more details below, or in the “Readings & Events” tab.
