Singing Summer: Jaunting Through July
I hope the summer has been good to you and yours so far. I’m happy to share details on my upcoming three readings in July, the latest podcast and review in support of Singing from the Deep End, and other recent poetic highlights.
This afternoon, Saturday, July 11, I’ll be reading at a book launch event for Tim Mayo’s fifth collection, Muscle Memories of Love and Disaster, held at 118 Elliot Street in Brattleboro, VT (doors at 4pm, reading at 4:30). The event features Mayo with Carlene Kucharczyk and me and is supported by ByWay Books. We hope to see you there!

Next up will be the Phosphorescence Poetry Reading Series, produced by the Emily Dickinson Museum, which “celebrates contemporary creativity that echoes Dickinson’s own revolutionary poetic voice.” I’m honored to be a Phosphorescence 2026 featured reader, along with Jen Jabaily-Blackburn and Sara Eddy, on Thursday, July 16 at 6pm ET. This virtual program is being recorded and streamed live from the Emily Dickinson Museum parlor. It’s free to attend online, and registration is required.
Finally, I’ll be headed to Governor’s Island on Saturday, July 18 to read at the NYC Poetry Festival with fellow CavanKerry Press poets Marina Carreira and Diana Whitney. We’ll be on the Brinkley Stage from 2:30-3:00pm. Take a ferry ride over for an afternoon of poetic summer fun!
Much appreciation to Lana Hechtman Ayers for featuring my poem “Brackett’s Quarry” from Singing from the Deep End in her “Poem After Poem” newsletter. Please consider subscribing to this beautiful, free resource (you can do so at the link). Thank you, Lana!
I’m so grateful to Erica Goss for her review of Singing from the Deep End, up at Pleiades: Literature in Context. She beautifully speaks to the “broken and radiant fragments” held by these poems, weaving them into a thoughtful reading that spans the collection, closing with: “Singing from the Deep End tells the truth about mother-love in its many forms. These are poems that take in life’s smallest moments and use them to enlarge the world.” Thank you to Erica and to Pleiades for making space for this review and for all you do for literature.
Many thanks to Dion O’Reilly and The Hive Poetry Collective of Santa Cruz, CA for featuring me on their podcast. Take a listen to our convo about Nan Cohen’s wonderful poem “Thirty-Year Friendship” that I brought in to share, as well as our chat about Perugia Press and its poets, CavanKerry Press as my poetry home, and a reading and discussion of five poems from Singing from the Deep End, touching on ghosts, the multiplicity of selves, shame, music, myth, form, and time travel in poetry, the ways we carry each other, the joys of friendship, and more.
To close, I want to share that a new poem, “An Old Story,” was published in the summer issue of Shō Poetry Journal and also won the Shō Poetry Prize! I’m so honored to appear in this publication and to have this poem receive this distinction. You can read and listen to the poem at the link, as well as check out my “About this Poem” offering. Thank you to the editors for this incredible support for my work!
Have a beautiful next chapter of this season, and I’ll be in touch before summer’s end with what comes next for me with poetry and Singing from the Deep End!
